Bluegrass Group Adventure!

Explore Central Kentucky

Sign up for an adventure!

The advice to "climb the mountains and get their good tidings" has been followed by Sierra Club members since the organization's start, and the pursuit of this goal has played a key role in shaping the Club's history. Sierra Club has been offering wilderness adventures since 1901!

We are blessed in Kentucky with an abundance of beautiful places to hike, canoe, bike, and enjoy the outdoors. Sierra Club ouings are led by certified Sierra Club outings leaders with the training and skills to guide safe and fun trips.

To sign up for an outing - just contact the outing leader for that trip (it will be listed in the trip description provided in the calendar.) We will list our Group outings in our event calendar (below). To sign up for other outings in Kentucky - check out the Cumberland Chapter Outings calendar.

If you have ideas for a fun outing, would like more information about our Group outings opportunities, or are interested in becoming a Sierra Club Outing Leader, let us know - Email our Bluegrass Group Outings Chair.

Inner City Outings

Lexington ICO

Sierra Club Inner City Outings is a community outreach program that provides opportunities for urban youth and adults to explore, enjoy, and protect the natural world.

The Sierra Club has 50 volunteer-run ICO groups spread throughout the United States - one of which is located right here within the boundaries of our Bluegrass Group - the Lexington ICO Group. Every year, these ICO groups conduct more than 800 outings that serve approximately 14,000 youth, helping these participants learn how to enjoy the outdoors safely and responsibly.

Through these outings, ICO promotes interpersonal skills and self-esteem by involving participants in teamwork, teaching them self-reliance outside an urban setting, and encouraging them to take an active role in protecting the environment. As its participants discover the beauty of wild lands, ICO also helps the Club build support for environmental protection in urban communities across the country.

To learn more about the Lexington ICO - contact the Lexington ICO Chair, and visit them on Facebook. To learn more about the national ICO Program, visit the national Sierra Club Inner City Outings website.
