December 1

Day Hike Ian Schill:
(502) 412-7292
Jefferson Memorial Forest
Louisville, KY
Moderate
Share my favorite hike that’s at Louisville’s own forest. But don’t let the fact that it’s in Louisville fool you! It does not seem urban at all. You’ll feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere even though you’re a mere fifteen minutes from downtown. The trail takes you up and down a lot of hills as it goes through the forest.

Rating: Moderate. 5-7 Miles. Suitable for beginners if in good shape.

December 2
(Sunday)
Day Hike:
Historic Walk
Oscar Geralds:
(859) 299-4410
& Frankie Barker:
(859) 264-8903
Lexington, KY moderate
As we walk along sidewalks beside tall buildings, we will mentally recreate over 200 years of history from the beginning settlement in a rustic blockhouse through great cultural and economic growth.

As we walk along sidewalks beside tall buildings, we will mentally recreate over 200 years of history from the beginning settlement in a rustic blockhouse through great cultural and economic growth.

We will see the site of many things that “used to be”- the “most orderly of disorderly houses, “ the brewery, Town Branch, the first of six courthouses. Why are there bullet holes over the door of the courthouse? Is the ghost still living in the Hunt Morgan House? We will think about our “proud” heritage as we visit the site of the slave market, slave jail, and slave whipping post.

The hike ends at a good Italian restaurant. If you sign up for this outing, it will be assumed you will participate regardless of weather conditions or civil disturbances.

Rating: Moderate, suitable for beginners, about 6 miles, 4 hours (all pavement)
