Harrison County Glades Southern Indiana |
Easy to Moderate |
| Join us as we work with the Indiana Chapter of the Nature Conservancy at one of the beautiful glades they steward in southern Indiana.
A glade is literally, “an opening surrounded by woods.” Years ago, natural fires kept the forest canopy cleared in some areas allowing prairie-like conditions to exist and sun-loving plants adapted to that environment to flourish. We will be clearing out “pioneer” cedars to let the sunlight back in and help restore the glade. No herbicides will be used but there may be cutting and certainly dragging of felled cedars to contend with. If you have a favorite saw, feel free to bring it and any appropriate safety gear. Otherwise, just bring water and a lunch and all tools will be provided. Rating: Easy to moderate, (work at your own pace/comfort level). |
