Want to learn more about the Sierra Club in a relaxed party setting? Join us at 7:30 pm for a Bluegrass Group Open House graciously hosted by Group members.

We have three open houses yearly (January, May, September). This is an opportunity to learn more about our local group in an informal setting. Everyone is welcome, current members as well as those who are just curious to learn more. Refreshments are provided. Watch the Cumberland for location details.

Eastern Kentucky has many areas that have been affected by a long history of coal mining logging, and other impacts. Come join us as we explore the wild lands near some of these ‘forgotten’ areas of the state to find their hidden secrets.

We will hike a couple of the loop trails (about 3 or 4 miles), sit in the bird blind for awhile, and visit the nature center.

CANCELLED: This outing has been cancelled. Why? Oscar says it is due to "excessive birthdays!" Personally...there is not a little suspicion among the rest of us that he's just celebrating his upcoming 80th birthday early! And we say "Go Oscar! Party on!" :)

Great Allegheny Bike Trail

150 miles between Cumberland,MD and Pittsburg, PA

Easy

Ride your bike from Pittsburgh, PA to Cumberland, MD on a railroad bed (never more than 3% grade) converted to a bike trail. You will pass through three tunnels, and cross the Mason-Dixon Line and the Eastern Continental Divide at 2,900’ elevation. 

The mountains and river scenery is truly spectacular as we pass through many small historic villages on the 150 mile trek ending in downtown Cumberland on the 4th day. 

Lodging will be in local bed and breakfasts or modest motels; camping is optional. A shuttle back to Pittsburgh will be part of the tour.  Participants must have a bike in good repair.

Rating: Cycling at easy pace of 35 miles a day; suitable for beginners in good physical condition; limited to 10 people

Come enjoy a fall hike in Shaker Village, south of Lexington.  We’ll meet at Shaker Village and go on a 2-4 mile hike on one of the Shaker Village trails.  We will hike along the meadows, creeks and streams.  Then we will eat lunch at the Shaker Village dining room following the hike.

Rating: Easy, suitable for beginners; 2-4 miles

Introduce your kids to nature through a short hike, picnic lunch and outdoor exploration. Enjoy the hike while your little one rides in a front or back carrier or treks along with us. We will hike the nature trail then have lunch near the playground. Please bring water, snacks, lunch and appropriate footwear for you and your child(ren).
