In order to offer a diverse program of safe and enjoyable outing activities, the Cumberland Chapter depends on the voluntary services of outings leaders. In order to develop a larger corps of highly qualified outing leaders, an Outing Leader Training Program has been established.
Only Sierra Club members can serve as outings leaders All outing leaders must complete this training program before they can schedule a chapter outing or activity. If you are not presently an outing leader, but are interested in leading a day hike, backpack, canoe or kayak trip or other activity, please sign up for the Outing Leader Training Program.
There are 3 requirements you must fulfill before leading a Sierra Club outing:
1.) Complete the Outings Leader Training OLT 101 for leading day long outings or car camping trips. For longer trips and backpacking adventures, completion of OLT 201 is required.
2.) Be certified in first-aid
3.) Publicize your outing in the chapter handbook, the Cumberland newspaper, the Sierra Club homepage, or a group flyer.
